The Autonomous Submarine (AUV) will use a newly developed camera system for identifying and counting plant and animal plankton in the euphotic zone (top 75 meters), process images in situ, categorising and classifying based on modern machine learning, generating a probability density chart in the X, Y and Z plan, as well as use an advanced AI based controller to return to the most highly correlated “hotspots” with regard to species of interest. The entire production chain will be anchored and controlled by a human expert (as needed) via a communications link to land to potentially change selection preferences dynamically so that the robot behaviour can be adapted “on-line”.
