The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at Haukeland University Hospital provides specialised rehabilitation to various diagnosis groups, including patients who have had strokes or serious traumatic brain damage. Upon admittance, patients are often bed ridden and have both major motory and cognitive issues, including consciousness disturbances. These patients have shown to have good benefit from early mobilisation, as this leads to a better function level over time. As a further development of the department´s offer, the Contracting Authority would like to procure Erigo®Pro in order to promote function in the early rehabilitation phase, as well as prevent complications. Erigo®Pro is a standing aid (robot), which allows early mobilisation of neurological patients such as, for example, patients with serious acquired brain damage from a stroke or traumatic brain damage. Erigo®Pro combines standing training with dynamic stepping/cycle movements. In addition, Erigo®Pro has synchronised “functional electrical stimulation” (FES). These functions enable serious patients get to get vertical better at an early stage (compared with mobilisation from a normal standing bench), as dynamic verticalisation has a positive influence on blood pressure, wakefulness and simulation of muscle activity. Erigo®Pro promotes function and hampers complications. It can give patients higher intensity at an earlier stage, which has shown to be positive for optimising function. The Contracting Authority has had the product demonstrated at various conferences on neurological rehabilitation, read research reports and it has contacts in the professional environment, including in Denmark, who have had good experience with the product. As far as the Contracting Authority is aware, Erigo®Pro is the only product in the market that makes dynamic standing training possible.
