Vest-Agder county shall procure a new navigation simulator (nautical simulator). The Vocational College in Kristiansand is in a procurement process for a new nautical simulator consisting of 4 bridges, one DNV-GL class A and 3 class B.
Equipment shall also be procured for a teaching room that includes Ecdis/radar training stations with a GMDSS simulator. (Hereafter called E-lab.)
The maritime certified education in Kristiansand has a history that goes back to 1666. There was a public school in 1853 and the engineer school was established in 1893. The country's first radio school was established here in 1922/23, with the call signal LJ2A in Kristiansand.
Today the college offers a 2 year navigator and technical shipping education. The Vocational College has a total of 30 students who graduate each year after completing the education, divided between nautical and machine.
There are also current external courses, the aim is to increase this in the future.
