Commissioning of National Monitoring of Terrestrial Insects in 2020

Multiple international studies have documented a significant population decline for insects in recent decades. Given the crucial role of insects in the function and services of the ecosystems, this is worrying. Miljødirektoratet [the Norwegian Environment Agency] wants to begin national monitoring of terrestrial insects. The network of monitoring surfaces shall, with good statistical expressive power, follow the status, trends and explain causal relationships for observed changes for the insect species group and their importance for evaluation of ecological status. The monitoring will be tested in 2020 for semi-natural land and forest ecosystems in Østlandet [Eastern Norway]. The main assignment is estimated to be NOK 5.2 million excluding VAT and includes an option for negotiation (NOK 200 000 excluding VAT).
