The project New National Museum was put before the Norwegian parliament in proposition 108 S(2012-2013) and was discussed by the Norwegian parliament 6.6.2013.
The Ministry of Culture has given the Directorate of Public Construction and Property the task of implementing the project in accordance with the prerequisites in the parliamentary proposition 108 S (2012-2013).
The architect company Kleihues + Schuwerk Gesellschaft von Architekten mbH is the architect for the project. Rambøll Norge AS is the consultant engineer and will cover the necessary disciplines. The Directorate of Public Construction and Property is the builder.
The project New National Museum has a gross area of 54 400 m2. The footprint of the building is approx. 13 700 m2 and the height from the lowest level to the roof level is approx. 38 m. The new museum is situated at Brynjulf Bulls plass 2, which is the old ‘Vestbane’ site in Oslo.

The construction started in 2014. The ground work has almost finished and the work with casting the framework is in progress. The sealed building contract has also been contracted and is in the start-up phase. Further contracting will start in the summer of this year and will be ongoing to spring 2017.
