The NMA has an extensive network of gravity base stations, which function as a reference for our regional gravity network. All stations obtained their gravity value by relative gravimeters in the 1970-ies. We are in the process of upgrading these stations with absolute gravity values. An absolute gravimeter is used, but in order to obtain an accurate absolute gravity value, the gravity gradient at each station must be known. A relative gravimeter is needed to measure such a gradient. The instrument will also be used to measure gravity traverses and should be of light weight and easy to operate.
