The Directorate of Education has been given the task of carrying out a trial with vocational education for agronomists and gardeners. The trial with vocational education for agronomists and gardeneres involves 2 years at college and 2 years in a certified apprentice company, starting with the academic year 2014/2015. Candidates will, upon completion of their education, receive a certificate of apprenticeship and a diploma equivalent to other vocations.
Agronomists and gardeners are currently the only vocational courses within the education programme for using nature that have the last year at college. The training will lead to vocational competence and students will receive a diploma with vocational competence, instead of a certificate of apprenticeship.
The trial started in August 2014 and will run until 2019. Buskerud, Oslo, Vestfold, Nordland and Finnmark counties are participating in the trial with a total of 8 sixth form colleges. There will be a total of 4 student years in the trial.
The trial shall be evaluated and the evaluation must be seen in connection with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food's evaluation of the structure and content in the agriculture and gardener training programme (see the ØF-report 5/2014). The evaluation shall start in spring 2015 and be completed in spring 2020.
