This invitation to tender is for the procurement of a Linux cluster (HPC-A1) with a minimum of 45000 cores, with a high performance interconnect and a fast global storage system for temporary files.
The purpose is to upgrade i.e. in essence replace the existing national HPC facilities. The current infrastructure consists of four HPC facilities located in the universities in Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim and Tromsø. It has been decided to reduce this number to two facilities with one being located at the University in Tromsø (called HPC-A1), and the other (called HPC-B1) being located at a location to be decided, and procured at a later date.
The HPC-facilities are to be all-purpose, and not tailored towards any specific field or competency.
The planned installation date is 1 September 2016 for HPC-A1. The main goal in the design of the proposed solution, and the criteria for the successful tenderer, is to maximize science production over Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
