The Geophysical Institute intends to acquire three to four (3-4) ocean gliders for use in the Nordic seas and the Fram Strait, primarily from the east Greenland shelf break, across the Greenland continental slope, and into the deep Greenland and Iceland basins. The gliders will operate along repeat transects throughout the year and contribute to the monitoring of the hydrography and circulation of the Nordic Seas, by sampling the temperature and salinity structure through standard CTD sensors and inferred ocean currents from depth-averaged currents and hydrography. Extensive mission lengths of up to one year duration (at least ten months), with flexible sampling schemes are planned.
