This enables ablation of all types of materials and very high sensitivity and signal reproducibility. We require a laser with maximum energy density at the sample surface up to 15 J/cm 3 . Furthermore we wish to have the maximum amount of spot size choices (for the chosen Teledyne laser it is up to 32). The laser must feature a fully homogenized laser beam using proprietary flat-field zero order external rotating homogenizer to ensure minimal elemental fractionation. The laser must run with proven spot sizes down to 1 μm for mapping purposes.
