The objective of the project
The goal of the Borealis project is to establish an intelligent road for improving traffic safety, environmental conditions/sustainability and predictability. The project shall also contribute to illuminating the possibilities for establishing integrated systems (C-ITS) where the goal is to demonstrating level 4 for self-driven cars for sections of E8.
In order to achieve the objectives of the project the following work packages are defined:
1. Basic infrastructure (power, communication, GPS positioning).
2. Instrumentation, known technology, weather stations, cameras, Bluetooth, WIM, etc.
3. Instrumentation, new technology, acoustic fibre (DAS), loT, ITS station, the car as a sensor unit, C-ITS, hybrid communication.
4. Technology and system development, metering systems/condition controls, data sharing.
5. Decision support (towards the operation contractors and the transportation business).
6. Harmonisation of winter operations.
