Short description
The Material Science Group at the Department of Mathematics and Physics at UiS investigates the structural and magnetic properties of unconventional magnets and functional materials. Our samples are mostly rare earth oxides and transition metal oxides in single crystal form, grown via the floating zone method or flux growth. The typical crystal sizes ranges between mm to a couple of cm. We use multiple characterization methods that required aligned crystals along highly symmetric crystallographic directions. In order to align, cut and prepare these samples an on-site Laue diffractometer is essential.
