We use a Fluorescence-Activated Cell Sorter (FACS) to prepare cells for experiments. Specifically, we use a Becton-Dickinson FACS Aria to purify neural stem cells and neuroglial progenitors progenitors based on surface markers or their expression of fluorescent proteins. The isolated cell populations are used for cell culture, RNA-analysis, and cellular transplantation. The device is central to everything that we do.
