Short description
The overall goal of the programme is to procure information that Miljødirektoratet (The Norwegian Environment Agency) can use in the regulation of new environmental toxins. Focus is particularly on poisonous substances that have a long lifetime in the environment, concentrated in organisms and spread over large geographical distances. There are particular concerns around hormone disruptive substances and there is increasing focus on so-called persistent, mobile and poisonous substances. The regulatory work is mainly aimed at the Stockholm Convention and the EU's chemical legislation, REACH, that both set particularly restrictive requirements for the use of these substances. Many products can still contain environmentally hazardous substances and are increasingly a source of emissions. ‘Miljøgifter i en urban fjord’ (‘Environmental poisons in an urban fjord’) is a programme that shall monitor leakage and spreading of chemicals used in a densely populated areas and review how this affects a fjord network.
