The Echo 525 and 550 will be used as primary liquid handling systems at the newly established High Throughput Translational Hematology (HTTH) Lab, where we are planning to run high-throughput drug screening of primary patient material. The unique focused sound energy technology of the Echo instruments allows for hands and tips free acoustic transfer of liquids down to 2.5nl. Thus, we can run low volume assays and direct transfer drug response curves which is crucial if material is limited. The combination of the 550 and 525 models allows for a fast and efficient contactless dispensing range between 2.5 nl and 5 µl, making it possible to run full assays with only acoustic dispensing. In addition, we save valuable resources since the instruments require no tips. Echo instruments are central in the operations at BRIC's core facility of HT Cell Based Screens, so this purchase expands on existing infrastructure and we can easily build up on existing experience and protocols. Finally, we will be able to use the Echo instruments in the HTTH and HT Cell Based Screens core facility as backup instruments for each of the other laboratory. The Biotech Research and Innovation Center (BRIC) is an elite research center at the Faculty of Health, Copenhagen University. It comprises 24 research groups within biomedical research and has a strong and long lasting cooperation with the Finsen Laboratory at Rigshospitalet. Recently, this cooperation lead to the establishment of a new research Program for Translational Hematology (PTH), which a. Echo liquid handlers enable highly accurate contact free sample and reagent transfer using focused sound energy technology in nanoliter scale volumes in a wide array of different types of liquids (the instruments can adapt to different densities, viscosities and surface tensions of liquids through a proprietary calibration method). The technology is unique, patent protected and superior to standard liquid handlers as it not only avoids usage of tips, which makes it significantly cheaper in running costs but also because it allows extremely precise transfer of liquid down to 2.5 nl volumes and eliminates risks of cross contamination between samples. This purchase of these Echo instruments is an extension of the existing Echo instrument setup in the HT Cell Based Screens core facility at BRIC and it will therefore allow transfer the protocols and operating expertise that already exist at BRIC. Furthermore, the new and the already existing instruments can serve as backup instruments for each other in case of heavy workload or instrument failures. The purchase will provide us with an additional level of assay sensitivity, complexity, precision and at the end data confidence, which is extremely important when working with primary patient material. The combination of the Echo 550 and 525 gives a unique dynamic contactless dispensing working range of 2.5 nl to 5 µl allowing for performing full bioassays, including dispensing of cells, with these instruments alone. 2017-11-28 Labcyte Inc San Jose 4290925.00 Klagenævnet for udbud Dahlerups Pakhus, Langelinie Allé 17 Copenhagen Ø 2100 +45 35291000 klfu@erst.dk http://www.klfu.dk Konkurrence- og Forbrugerstyrelsen Carl Jacobsens Vej 35, Valby Copenhagen 2500 +45 41715000 kfst@kfst.dk http://www.kfst.dk 2017-11-28
