At the department of Forensic Genetics we wish to investigate the applicability of Next Generation Sequencers for use in different analysis relevant in Forensic Genetic investigations. We seek an instrument with a performance specification in sequencing yield in the range of 10MB to 1 GB with an associated library preparation protocol involving a minimum of hands-on time. The large sequencing yield is required to obtain sufficient coverage for reliable identification of rare variants in i.e. mixtures. The instrument must rely on non-optical detection such as laser or cameras for detection. Furthermore, the instrument must be compatible with forthcoming panels for forensic applications from Life Technologies. The panels are planned to be tested and used in an existing EU-funded collaboration, partly between European forensic genetic laboratories (EUROFORGEN-NoE).
