The refrigerator will be used for opto- and electromechanical experiments at The Niels Bohr Institute. According to the European Parliament and Council Directive nº 2014/24/ EC, Article 32. 2, point b, the University of Copenhagen believes that Bluefors Cryogenics Oy is the only manufacturer that can meet the following requirements asked for by The Niels Bohr Institute. Due to the nature of opto-mechanical experiments, mechanical vibrations have extremely adverse effect on the measurements. Despite advanced damping systems, the operation of the pulse tube cryocooler required for refrigeration is a significant source of mechanical vibrations and noise in all cryogen free dilution refrigerators. This can make it impossible to perform opto-mechanical experiments. NBI therefore requires the possibility to switch off the pulse tube cooler during the aquisition of sensitive data. Bluefors is offering a so-called Helium battery option integrated in their dilution refrigerator. The battery allows operation of the refrigerator at the base temperature with the pulse tube turned off for a prolonged time long enough to perform sufficient measurement series. Together with the active damping, the Helium battery drastically reduces the mechanical vibrations and noise to a level where opto-mechanical experiments are possible.
