The Norwegian laboratory for mineral and material characterisation has an ambition to be a world leading laboratory for depicting (in 1D — 3D with the resolution nanometer-micrometer) and chemical analysis (down to ppb-level) minerals, metals and advanced nano materials. The laboratory would like to build on and supplement the existing infrastructure at NTNU, NGU and SINTEF. The plan is to invest in the following equipment units:
— 3D Atom Probe Tomography (ATP) instrument for 3D chemical and structural analysis on the nm scale,
— Field emission microprobe (FE-EPMA) for chemical and structural analysis on the micrometer scale,
— Automatic mineral analysis (AMS) for efficient characterisation of minerals,
— 2 complimentary set-ups for laser ablation-mass spectrometers (LA-SS-ICP-MS and LA-QqQ-ICP-MS/MS) for chemical analysis, isotopic analysis and mapping, as well as inorganic material analysis.
