Short description

The Department of Archaeology and Cultural History executes between 10 and 20 archaeological excavations per annum. Approx. 2 — 5 annual excavations involve examinations of prehistoric agricultural settlements. Fossil plant materials in postholes, fireplaces, cooking pits, cultural layers, agricultural layers and other archaeological contexts, are discovered during these excavations. The volume of macrofossil plant residues for analysing is approx. 50 samples in a ‘low’ year, and approx. 400 samples in a ‘peak’ year.
