The project consists of expanding national road 509 to a four lane road, with a combination lane for public transport and heavy transport, as well as a new two-level interchange instead of the roundabout between national road 509 and Flyplassvegen. New foot and cycle paths and access roads shall also be constructed.
The project starts where the project Solasplitten ends at Sømmevågen and has its regulation limit approx. 500 m north of the top of Sømmebakken. This part of the site has a stretch of approx. 1.2 km.
Flyplassvegen starts at the new two-level interchange and ends with a new large roundabout south of the existing roundabout down towards Solastranden and it has a length of approx. 1.5 km.
The project is a part of the Transport Corridor West.
