This is an invitation to apply for licenses for exploration and extraction of geothermal energy for district heating in Denmark. Licenses are granted for an initial exploration period of 6 years with a right to extension for extraction for up to 30 years.

The initial deadline for applying for a geothermal license in Denmark is 1st of November 2023
Subsequent deadlines are every year on the 1st of February and the 1st of September.
Applications must be submitted to the Danish Energy Agency.
Note:
Licenses for exploration and extraction of geothermal energy are issued in accordance with Sections 5 and 18 (a) (1) of the Consolidated Act no. 1533 of 16 December 2019 on the Use of the Danish Subsoil.
Said licenses do not constitute procurement per se, but grant an exclusive right/license to the holder for the exploration and production of geothermal energy within a defined area and subject to specific terms and conditions.
The granting of said licenses are not subject to the rules of the Danish Procurement Law or other laws or regulations for which specific categories exist on udbud.dk.
