Vestland fylkeskommune v/Skyss (‘VLFK’) (Vestland County c/o Skyss) intends to enter into a contract with Fjord 1 for extension of the existing operational contract for up to 2 years. The current contract between VLFK and Fjord 1 expires in April 2022.
VLFK has determined that for the new operational contract there will be requirements concerning the use of zero emissions technology, but with the possibility of hybrid propulsion solutions. The County has had dialogue with the market in order to understand the technological status and development need, how the environmental ambition can best be achieved, and from what point in time such technical vessel systems can be expected to be operationally ready. Based on the dialogue, VLFK aims for the new contract to have operational commencement 1 May 2024, but with an option for the winning operator to commence 1 November 2023 if desired.
In order to cover the need in a shorter period it has therefore been decided to extend the existing contract with Fjord 1. This is considered a legal change of the contract, cf. PPR chapter 28.
