The Danish Road Directorate (DRD) is considering establishing dynamic concave speed bumps. Before doing so the DRD wish to identify which products are available of this kind.
Therefore, the DRD would like to invite suppliers who are able to deliver dynamic concave speed bumps to send a statement about themselves and their product within the deadline stated below.
Concave speed bumps create a recess in the road surface – unlike convex bumps that create a rise.
The dynamic concave speed bumps shall operate in such a way that the speed bump is only activated and physically dampens traffic speed if a given vehicle exceeds the applicable speed limit. When crossing the bump site at legal speed, passenger car and heavy traffic should not be affected. The speed bumps must therefore be traffic controlled, react to each individual vehicle’s access speed.
The speed bumps will be located covering one-way single lane carriageways at the boundary between country and city. The locations all have a speed limit of 50 km/h and annual day traffic of 10-15 000 vehicles. The speed bumps must be able to handle speeds exceeding 50 km/t and significant heavy traffic and be safe and efficient in operation.
Suppliers must be able to demonstrate that the speed bump offered meets the design requirements specified in Danish Order No 620 of 17 June 2019. Link:

It is e.g. important that the offered speed bump does not exceed the allowed vertical accelerations.
